Ethical Culture & Perceptions Assessment

Since 2010, the ICO conducts a biennial survey to assess the university community's awareness of certain resources; perceptions of integrity and compliance in the workplace; and comfort level related to raising concerns. The survey helps to identify and measure drivers of ethical conduct, opportunities to strengthen our workplace culture, and effectiveness of VCU’s Ethics and Compliance Program.

Here are a few examples of how survey results have been put into practice over the years:

  • The creation of the Policy Points email notice to inform employees of new and revised policies
  • An increased training focus on non-retaliation, civility and manager responsibilities for handling employee concerns
  • An option to test out of the full-length, annual Integrity & Compliance Education course
  • Training for all new employees on effective ways to speak up, influence ethical behavior and navigate difficult situations
